About this winery

Sokol Blosser is one of the pioneering estates of the Oregon state wine industry. In 1971 when Bill Blosser and Susan Sokol Blosser began converting an old prune orchard into a vineyard they became one of five bonded wineries in the region. Production notes

The grapes were carefully harvested from Estate vineyards, hand sorted to remove any flawed bunches and de-stemmed directly into 3-ton stainless steel and 2.5 ton wooden upright fermenters. After 7 days of cold soaking, fermentation took place over 13-15 days using ambient yeast, and cap management was punchdowns. After the long, cool fermentation, the wine was pressed off at dryness then barreled, aging for 16 months in 100% French oak barrels with 20% new oak. 35% used oak, and 45% neutral oak.

Tasting notes

On the nose, the 2021 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir shows notes of black cherry and raspberry accompanied by leather. On the palate, the fruit remains the same but is joined by black pepper and clove.

July 2021

Redcurrants, dried herbs, sweet spices and tobacco on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with creamy tannins and lively acidity. Round, with a velvety texture. Complex and balanced, with a long, savory finish. From organically grown grapes.

February 2022 (Vintage 2019)

Ripe red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by candied rose and baking spice notes and display fine detail and lift. Seamless in texture and showing very good energy to the sweet red and blue fruit flavors, which deepen through the back half. The clinging finish repeats the spice and cherry notes and lingers with tenacity and gentle tannic grip.

September 2023 (Vintage 2021)

A saturated and barely transparent ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Estate is ripe and forward with aromas of cherry lozenge, toasted baking spices, and pressed flowers. Rounded and silky, this medium-bodied red is attractive with ripe red and black-berried fruits, supple, fine tannins, and a graceful finish. It’s a very attractive, ripe wine to enjoy over the next few years.

May 2023 (Vintage 2021)

Red fruited Pinot Noir from a collection of Dundee Hills sites in the Sokol Blosser portfolio. Floral aromatics of dried violets give way to fresh cranberry relish and wintergreen aromatics. The palate offers a streak of umami underlying bing cherry flesh and ripe raspberries.
