About this winery

Sokol Blosser is one of the pioneering estates of the Oregon state wine industry. Production notes

The grapes were carefully hand harvested at just over 23°Brix on a clear and warm morning in late September. They were then sorted by hand on the crush pad to remove any flawed bunches and 100% de-stemmed directly into several 3-ton stainless steel fermenters. This block was fermented cool and slowly in stainless steel small fermenters. 50% of the fermenters were pressed at dryness with a total of 18 days on the skins. The other 50% was an extended maceration with 44 days on the skins. This wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels for 17 months with minimal SO2 levels. There were 12 barrels hand selected for this final 2017 12 Row cuveé. This cuveé is 25% from new oak barrels, 75% from once or twice used oak barrels.

October 2021 (Vintage 2017)

A pinot with dried-strawberry and light watermelon aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, lightly dusty tannins and a medium chewy finish.

August 2020 (Vintage 2017)

Vivid scarlet. Aromas of musky red berries and cherry pit, along with turned earth, licorice and cola nuances. Weighty, palate-coating bitter cherry, black raspberry, floral pastille and mocha flavors turn sweeter on the back half. In a powerful, serious style for the vintage, showing solid grip on the clinging finish, which is shaped by dusty, slowly building tannins. 25% new oak.
