About this winery

Southern Right is a small Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc specialist located on a strikingly beautiful 448 ha property in the cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, just behind the old fishing village of Hermanus. Tasting notes

Made in a way ensuring the personality of site and soil is not over-ridden by the forceful character of the variety, this wine exhibits the typical Southern Right balance of tight "Old World" minerality and length with hints of "New World” texture and body. The 2025 is a wine that favours individuality, minerality and palate complexity ahead of simple, pungent varietal aroma. A significant percentage of fruit from iron and clay-rich soil (46%) has added a textural and structural component and additional overall complexity to this wine. Granitic soils (28%) have added openness and perfume, while sandstone soils (26%) have contributed their typical bright, tensile character and a marked, saline minerality. This is Sauvignon blanc as fine wine, not Sauvignon blanc as simply a varietal expression.

Monica Larner, February 2026 (Vintage 2025)

Sourced from 35 different parcels across varied soil types, the Southern Right 2025 Sauvignon Blanc offers lively aromas of passion fruit, guava and citrus, with a subtle lift of white pepper and dried ginger. Crisp and lean on the palate, it shows bright acidity and a clean, quick-drinking personality that makes it an ideal lunch companion on a hot summer afternoon. A small 7% portion of the blend spent four months in neutral oak, adding a touch of texture.
