About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

This smells literally like a beautiful bouquet of roses and it has a great balance, thanks to the fine tannins (this grape can have ugly tannins!) and the way they neatly counterpoint the full body and hint of sweetness. Almost dry finish and no perceptible alcohol, in spite of being 14.5%. From biodynamically grown grapes.

Damask rose, orange peel and pith and juicy peach make for an attractive combination on the nose of this wine. The palate has gentle sweetness that is countered by pleasant, phenolic bitterness that lends shape to this off-dry, spicy, mellow wine. Yes it is generous, but all that zesty pithiness makes the wine intriguing. The off-dry finish is textured.

Deep and spicy with pronounced sandalwood notes. A generous gewurz that has modest acidity, but fine tannins that balance the richness very well. Long, bone-dry finish. From over 70-year-old vines. From biodynamically grown grapes.

The 2018 Gewurztraminer Roche Roulée is quite a bit drier than the Roche Calcaire tasted next to it. The candied orange peel and passion fruit flavors are a bit more overt, but the wine retains terrific tension and energy to balance things out. The Roche Roulée has a real sense of structure to it that will work beautifully at the dinner table. It is a blend of valley floor sites in Turckheim and Herrenweg.
