This wine is a Hamilton Russell Walker Bay to reflect the fact that the grapes are not all Estate grown. Hamilton Russell Vineyards refers only to our 52 hectare clay-rich “Monopole” reflected through a single Estate Pinot noir and a single Estate Chardonnay for 40 vintages this year. Due to a large wildfire which burned along winery borders on January 11th, 2019, it was necessary to reject almost all the 2019 Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinot noir due to minor, but noticeable smoke taint.

Notes de dégustation

After having to reject the majority of Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinot Noir due to minor smoke taint, the winery took the precaution of purchasing Pinot Noir grapes. These grapes were the best unaffected Pinot noir grapes that the winery could find from generous colleagues in the Hemel-en-Aarde area. The resulting blend of the 3 Hemel-en-Aarde appellations is the first of its kind and is a wine of great personality and interest.

Septembre 2020 (Millésime 2019)

Made with 84% purchased fruit because of the fire in Hamilton Russell's own vineyards,
this is a cuvée of the three Hemel-en-Aarde Valley sub-regions, and all the better for it. A one-off it may be, but it's less earthy and backward than the estate's normal style, combining fragrance elegance with racy red berry fruit, some clove spice, supporting tannins and stylish oak.
