Antonio Galloni, Septembre 2020 (Millésime 2016)

The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a'Frati is dense, rich and enveloping. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice build in a sumptuous, vibrant Riserva that hits all the right notes. The 2016 offers a captivating mélange of fruit richness, energy and intensity. The high altitude Poggio a'Frati vineyard did exceptionally well in 2016. This is such a gorgeous wine.

James Suckling, Octobre 2020 (Millésime 2017)

Lots of vivid raspberry, blueberry and currant aromas and flavors to this. Really pure fruit. It’s medium-bodied with soft, silky tannins and a fruity finish. Really well done, as always. Drink or hold.

Antonio Galloni, Septembre 2021 (Millésime 2017)

he 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a'Frati is a heady, expressive wine that is just showing a hint of its potential. More than anything else, I am impressed with the wine's energy and vibrancy, which was a bit hard to come by in 2017. Bright, saline notes lift a core of sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper, mint, sage and dried flowers. The flavors are so vivid in this super eloquent Riserva from Rocca di Castagnoli.

Bruce Sanderson, Septembre 2022 (Millésime 2017)

Bright cherry and raspberry fruit is the signature of this tightly wound red. Mineral, tobacco and rosemary accents add depth, and the vibrant structure keeps it all defined. Beautifully balanced and long, echoing the ripe fruit. Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Best from 2023 through 2037. 4,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

Antonio Galloni, Août 2023 (Millésime 2019)

The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a'Frati is a complex, beguiling wine. Macerated red cherry, rose petal, tangerine oil, spice and crushed flowers make a strong opening statement. Beams of tannin give the 2019 its shape and overall energy. It will be interesting to see if this softness at all. Today, it is more brute power than finesse.
