Notes about product

Family vitners for over 100 years, the Catenas are recognized for their pioneering role in high-altitude viticulture in Argentina. This wine is sourced from the family´s historic vineyards in the Agrelo Appellation, a region well regarded for Cabernet Sauvignon in Mendoza. The appellation´s deep clay soils and moderate climate produce wines that are revered for their robust tannins and smooth, lengthy finish.

July 2018

Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, licorice, menthol and herbs, with some obviously very ripe, even port-like qualities that may be from late-picked fruit. Rich, plush and intense in the mouth, as well as suaver than the nose suggests, offering a sexy sweetness but also excellent framing acidity to its dark berry and menthol flavors. This is impressively broad for 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. Finishing with substantial but fine-grained tannins and terrific energy and length, this wine would appear to have a bright future.

June 2018

Some of the Appellation wines were produced before the whole range was created, as is the case with the classical 2016 Appellation Agrelo Cabernet Sauvignon, from a classical zone in Luján de Cuyo. It was produced with grapes from 30-year-old vines at 950 meters in altitude from a cool El Niño year. It fermented after a three-day cold soak and matured in French and American oak barrels for one year. This is one of the few places where you find old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon, a classical place for the grape. It's serious, harmonious and very varietal, without green or overripe aromas. It has a great palate with very fine tannins, elegant yet powerful. This overdelivers.
