An acquisition that came with the Dupont-Tisserandot purchase in 2012, this hails from
three parcels amounting to one hectare in total. It’s a brilliant expression of the Premier Cru, with abundant scents of violet and blood orange and a palate that combines supple sweetness with focus and acidity.

Very fragrant with effusive, floral notes and some sour cherry. This is a very graceful and filigree wine, in which the tannins show at the end as if suddenly emerging from the depths. In spite of that, the finish is super elegant.

Shows a lot of finesse and elegance, with a bright cherry fruit, abundant floral notes and enough freshness to carry it through to a rewarding conclusion. The house owns nearly one hectare in Lavaux St-Jacques. In 2020, the fruit was picked at 13.5% and fermented with a good proportion of whole clusters before being run into cask (38% new) for ageing.

This intensely perfumed wine has great ripe fruits and delicious acidity. It is richly endowed both with tannins and spicy wood flavors that give extra body and density. This will be a very fine wine as it ages, but wait until 2024.

Despite the atypical refinement of the Champs Fulliot, this is another step up in elegance with its floral, high-toned and extremely pure nose of cool and airy red berry fruit aromas that are in keeping with the delicate and lightly mineral suffused flavors that possess fine depth, balance and length. A wine of subtlety.

Moderate wood again frames the fresh and unusually expressive nose of forest floor, the sauvage and various wild red berries. There is impressive concentration to the powerful and tautly muscular medium-bodied flavors that display excellent length on the very firm finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. This is already attractively complex and a wine that should age gracefully over the next 12 to 15 years.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques is another notable success this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, peonies, orange zest and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and perfumed, its satiny attack segueing into a sweet core of fruit, it concludes with a long, saline finish.

Here too there is enough wood to notice on the expressive nose that is riper than is typical for LSJ. In the same vein the medium-bodied flavors are notably richer than is typical for a young LSJ with plenty of minerality on the robust, powerful and concentrated finish. This is serious if a bit atypical and note well that it’s going to require plenty of cellar time to reach its apogee.

A brooding nose of dark berry, sauvage and earth nuances is trimmed in moderate wood. The lilting but punchy middleweight flavors possess lovely detail and an underlying tension while offering good length on the youthfully austere and ever-so-mildly lean finish. I suspect that this will better flesh out if given a few years of cellaring.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers one of my favourite bouquets from Faiveley in this vintage: open redcurrant and wild strawberry scents, touches of sous-bois and truffle, very expressive and charming. The palate is well balanced with finely-chiselled tannins, quite energetic, perhaps because compared to their Les Cazetiers, this was barely touched by the frost. Almost confit-like on the finish. Excellent.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru comes from a one-hectare parcel of old vines. It has an attractive bouquet of raspberry, forest floor and fern-like aromas that gather momentum in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, good depth and a little chewiness on the entry...

A beautifully layered and fresh nose offers up notes of essence of plum, rose petal, anise and hints of wood toast, forest floor and the sauvage. Once again there is a lovely mouthfeel to the medium weight and tautly muscular larger-scaled flavors that possess excellent delineation and plenty of minerality that adds a touch of lift to the firm, serious and sneaky long finish. I like the complexity and this too should age effortlessly.
