Part of the Catena family of wines, High Note hails from the high elevations of the Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina. The wines are a blend of four different vineyards located at the foot of the Andes at 3,300 to 5,000 ft above sea level. Vistaflores Vineyard contributes spices, red fruits, and minerality; La Consulta Vineyard offers black and a mid-palate weight; Altamira Vineyard adds notes of violets; and the highest Gualtallary Vineyard, produces grapes with a deep purple colour, floral and black fruit notes, and balanced acidity. Keeping true to Catena’s quest to making high quality terroir-driven wines, the winemaker Leopoldo Kuschnaroff crafts wines reflective of the terroir from the four vineyards. The conditions, a wide diurnal range with the intense desert sunlight and very cool temperatures overnight and dry sandy soils, coupled with long hang times produce grapes with concentrated flavours. Leopoldo has worked with the Catena family since 2007 and joined High Note in 2013. He holds a degree in winemaking and a master’s in viticulture from Cuyo University. But, more importantly coming from a family of farmers, farming has long been Leopoldo’s way of life holding true to the philosophy that great wines are made in the vineyard.
