The Marion Farm is a small family run property managed by Stefano Campedelli and his wife Nicoletta. The winery and vineyards are located in the Marcellise valley, outside the Classico zone, on the hills east of Verona and 100 metres above sea level. The soils are predominantly calcareous and are farmed sustainably and with minimal intervention in the cellar. The early Marion wines were influenced by enologist Celestino Gaspari, who was a disciple of Giuseppe Quintarelli. The wines were bold and concentrated, but this was not what Stefano was looking for in his wines. He wanted to produce wines with more elegance and finesse and less residual sugar. More in the line of Barolo and Burgundy. The difference in the wines of today is easy to see in the glass. The older vines are planted in the traditional pergola system, in which the canopy is trained overhead on wooden and wire supports. The younger vines that were planted by Stefano and his wife Nicoletta in the early 90s, are planted to guyot, which are lower yielding and easier to manage. The vineyards are planted to several varieties. Corvina Grosso, Corvina Gentile, and Rondinella for their two Valpolicella wines and Corvinone, Corvina gentile and Rondinella for their Amarone. Cabernet Sauvignon, Teroldego (sourced from the incredible Foradori estate), Osollette, Croatina, Syrah, and Merlot are also planted. Steel tanks are the preferred fermentation vessel and large 350 litre Slovenian oak barrels are used for ageing their Amarone and the Cabernet Sauvignon Veneto I.G.T.

Reviews for this winery

Vinous

Plainly stated, Marion is part of a handful of producers who are pushing the limits of progress in Valpolicella, and they are paving the way toward a brighter future.
