Dr. Antonio Moretti has made a major impact on the Italian wine scene with his projects Tenuta Sette Ponti near Arezzo, Poderi Orma in Bolgheri, and Feudo Maccari in Sicily. All the estates have received repeated recognition from the International Wine Press for producing outstanding terrior driven wines. Podere Orma is located within the district of Castagneto Carducci in Bolgheri, where the illustrious neighbours include both Sassicaia and Ornellaia. Needless to say, the region comprises some of the most legendary terroir in all of Italy. Since its inception in 2005 Orma (which translates to "mark" or "footprint") has always received the kind of stellar reviews its privileged position demands; when the prices of the great neighbouring estates are considered, Podere Orma emerges as a killer value. A blend of Bordeaux varietals (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc) the wine was aged in French barriques, using a portion of both new and second use. The result is an elegant blend fully expressing the famous Bolgheri terroir, combining savoury herbal aromas, rich ripe, fruit, and an astonishing sumptuousness of texture.

"This Bordeaux blend from Bolgheri is a challenger to Sassicaia and Ornellaia."

Vinous

I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Orma, proprietor Antonio Moretti's estate in Castagneto Carducci. Moretti may be better known for the wines he makes at his Sette Ponti property, but Orma has come on very strong, especially within the last few years. These wines are seriously compelling.
