About this winery

Sette Ponti reflects the vision of Dr. Antonio Moretti, who took over the estate from his father in the late 1990's, and immediately began producing estate-bottled wines. The vineyards occupy a total of 150 acres, at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters; the oldest vines (mostly sangiovese) date from 1935. Notes about product

The 2016 harvest was a winemakers dream in terms of quality. The season saw cooler than average temperatures that led to a slight reduction in yields. This was followed by a very warm and dry summer - with only one rainfall in August to help the vines. Harvesting began in the beginning of October and the resulting wines have wonderful flavors with exceptional profiles.

Winemaking notes

The grapes were hand sorted and destemmed, and the skins were broken rather than crushed. Fermentation took place in a combination of temperature-controlled and lined open-top tanks, with manual punching down and maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation. Lots were blended when the wine was placed in barriques and also at the first racking. The wine was aged 18 months in new French barriques and 12 months in bottle prior to release.

Tasting notes

Rich and complex aromas of black currant, small black fruits and delicate balsamic notes. Velvety tannins and blackberry fill the palate with lingering persistence.

#25 - Top 100 Wines of 2018

September 2018

Gorgeous floral and deep, dark berry aromas with hints of spices such as cinnamon and hazelnuts. Full body and ultra-fine and strong tannins that are powerful yet so sleek and beautiful. Fantastic length and texture. Deep, dark and profound. Takes you on a long journey and shows you its true character.

March 2019

The 2016 Oreno is gorgeous. Rich, unctuous and resonant, the 2016 is laced with inky blue/purplish fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, lavender, licorice and incense. Silky tannins and dense, plush fruit add to its undeniable immediacy and sheer appeal.

August 2018

Focused, dripping with black cherry and blueberry fruit, accented by leather, spice and earth notes. This is broad-shouldered and supple, with sweet fruit and a solid structure converging on the finish.
