CHATEÂU MARGAUX

Margaux du Château Margaux 2015

- 94 points -

The 2015 Margaux du Chateau Margaux red is a splendid garnet-purple coloured creation with incredibly inviting aromatics bursting with seductive notes of black berries, crème de cassis, pressed rose petals, lavender, sappy sandalwood and hints of sweet Cohiba cigar tobacco spice. This vintage has got to be the ripest and most opulent expression of this Margaux Bordeaux since the maiden 2009 release, showing a medium to full–bodied flavour packed mouthful, delivering a lush black berry seduction, hints of black forest gateau and a tight knit vein of finely polished spicy tannins which melt away into a fresh, inviting acidity that somewhat reins in the warm fruit exuberance.  This wine is certainly not lacking in backbone or classicism, revealing plenty of mid-palate concentration and focused precision as you would expect from one of the greatest Chateau in Bordeaux

About Greg Sherwood MW

Greg was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and as the son of a career diplomat, spent his first 21 years travelling the globe with his parents. All the related wining and dining, in the line of duty, is where he first realised his passion for fine wine. Greg completed his Theory examination in 2006 and the MW dissertation process in 2007 with a topic entitled “Method Cap Classique Production in Constantia, South Africa.” He is proud to be counted as only the fourth South African ever to pass the prestigious Master of Wine examinations when he became the 265th Master of Wine in 2007. Ten years later, there are still only just over 350 Masters of Wine in the world.
