ARNOT-ROBERTS

Arnot-Roberts a été fondé en 2001 à Healdsburg, en Californie, par deux amis d’enfance : Duncan Arnot Meyers et Nathan Lee Roberts. Duncan Arnot Meyers a grandi dans le vin. Le meilleur ami de son père était Bernard Portet, le co-fondateur de Clos du Val, et Duncan a passé une bonne partie de sa jeunesse près de ce domaine, dans la vallée de Napa. Il a été encadré par John Kongsgaard pendant 2 ans et demi et il a travaillé aux côtés de Pax Mahle, spécialiste culte de la syrah, à son domaine situé dans le nord de la Californie jusqu'en juin 2008.
Le nom « Roberts » dans l'appellation Arnot-Roberts provient de Nathan Lee Roberts, maître-tonnelier de deuxième génération. Comme il crée ses propres tonneaux, Nathan se rend en France plusieurs fois par année pour sélectionner le meilleur chêne pour son projet.
Le but est de produire des vins naturels exprimant la singularité et la beauté de leur origine. En d’autres mots, un mariage entre la sensibilité de la France et la générosité de la Californie, ce qui a pour résultat des vins qui sont l'expression de leur terroir. Cependant, il n'est pas aisé de se procurer des raisins provenant des vignobles les plus distingués et les plus récompensés de cet État. Heureusement, les propriétaires méticuleux de ces vignobles savent reconnaître un « gagnant » lorsqu’ils en voient un.
Le logo de l’étiquette (illustrant la plante California Fuschia) a été peint par Margrit Biever Mondavi, la grand-mère de Nathan.

The momentum of which has shifted both the landscape and expectations of what the state can deliver. Arnot-Roberts represents a forward-thinking era of winemaking in the US and the scramble to secure them on release is testament to their quality and popularity.

Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts presented an absolutely stellar collection of wines this year. The 2021s are simply magnificent from top to bottom. Some of the highlights include the Haynes and Trout Gulch Chardonnays, both of which are sublime. The highs get even higher in the Syrahs, all three of which are sublime. The Que Syrah Syrah might be the single most thrilling wine I have ever tasted from Arnot and Roberts. Readers will also want to check out the new Red Wine California, a special bottling that hopefully will become part of the permanent lineup. I can’t think of too many winemakers who are equally skilled at making gorgeous wines from so many different varieties. This was an unforgettable tasting.
