Celebrating Trialto's 25th Anniversary - Catena Library Offer

For 25 years our team has proudly shared our passion for wines of People, Place and Time. There have been many people who have helped along the way to make Trialto what it is today, including the people of Catena who have become like family.

At heart, Catena is a story about family. It all started in 1902 but it wasn’t until the 1980s when 3rd generation Nicolás Catena armed himself and later his daughter Laura with the vision of elevating Catena and Argentine wines. Nicolás’s dream was for his family’s wines to be appreciated and recognized amongst the very best in the world. The father and daughter duo are a fierce force. Their high standard of excellence has brought them much acclaim over the years, for their wines and for their work. Most recently, Catena was voted number one at the World’s Best Vineyards 2023 ceremony in La Rioja, Spain.

As Argentina’s high altitude Malbec pioneer, Nicolás revolutionized Argentine winemaking when he did two things nobody else was doing at that time. He focused on quality when volume was the norm; he planted Malbec (which is low yielding) recognizing its potential to make excellent wines that can stand among the greatest in the world. Secondly, he planted them in the high altitudes of the Andes where it was cooler and offered significant sunlight intensity.

It’s wonderfully special then that the Catena family sent to share with our valued customers the 2008 Malbec Argentino – 100% Malbec from massale selections of prephylloxera ungrafted vines from their historic Adrianna and Nicasia Vineyards sitting at 1450 m (4757 ft) and 1095 m (3593 ft) above sea level, respectively. With the standard Catena meticulous care and attention, harvest is manual and can vary by several weeks between one lot and another within the same vineyard. We invite you to join in our 25th anniversary celebrations with this special library wine.

Cheers!

Wine Advocate, December 2011

The 2008 Argentino Malbec is a blend of 65% Adrianna and 35% Nicasia fruit. It, too, spent 24 months in 100% new French oak. The Argentino offers a similar aromatic and flavor profile but with just a bit of extra nuance, presumably because of the blending. Dense, rich, and voluptuous, this lengthy effort should easily achieve its 20th birthday in peak form. It will be most enjoyable to taste these three wines side-by-side in another 10-15 years.
