Celebrating Trialto's 25th Anniversary - Azelia Library Offer

Reflecting on our 25th anniversary, we wouldn’t be where we are without enjoying many bottles of Barolo over the years. We feel fortunate to have incredible Barolo producers in our portfolio, and one in particular, that feels like family, is Azelia.

When we asked our partners to share something special from their cellars that we can pass on to our valued customers, Azelia (they celebrated their cententary in 2020) wowed us with Barolos from two excellent vintages, 2004 and 2010, and both in magnum.

“My dream is to make a wine that is great today, but that will be even better in 10 years and in 20 years,” said Luigi Scavino, Azelia 4th generation proprietor and vintner, in a Wine Advocate article from October 2006. Having tasted the 2010 Barolo very recently, our experience is a testament to the realization of his dream.

It has been our pleasure to share Azelia's wines with Western Canada over the years, somewhat of a Barolo lover's secret. We encourage you to take advantage of this extraordinary offer and celebrate our 25th anniversary with us.

Cheers!

2010 Barolo - Magnum

This is a mix of 7 different single vineyards from Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d’Alba and aged for two years in large casks. What makes this a standout Barolo are the old vines (average age 50 years today) and always added to the blend are grapes from Bricco Voghera (vines are more than 95 years old today!), made only as a Riserva in exceptional years and aged for 10 years before release.

The chewy texture gives definition to the cherry, plum, licorice and tar flavors. The tannins are surprisingly civilized, making this Barolo relatively open and fluid for the vintage. Tightens up on the finish.

2004 Margheria - Magnum

Entirely south facing, Azelia's Margheria cru is situated 250-360m above sea level in Serralunga d'Alba in the higher westerly aspect. Vines are on average 60 years old today. It's an exceptional site producing outstanding wines in the short term but built for aging.

Vinous, May 2015

While most of the Azelia 2004s performed inline with previous tastings, the Margheria has turned out to be more compelling than I had originally foreseen. Lavender, smoke, iron, herbs, dark cherries, plums and spices give the wine its striking aromatics. Tension, energy and precision are the signatures. There is so much to like here. The Margheria spent 30 months in Slavonian and Austrian oak casks.

About AZELIA

AZELIA

If Azelia's Barolos needed to be described in a single word, that word would be 'elegant'. The wines have always been a pure expression of nebbiolo, silky textured and harmonious, never over extracted or excessively oaky. If their intrinsic balance makes them approachable when they are young, it also makes them supremely age-worthy. Azelia is unquestionably one of Langhe's best value producers.
