About FAIVELEY

FAIVELEY

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, but after seven generations of steadily acquiring properties the Faiveley family have established themselves as the most important vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 125 hectares of painstakingly selected small plots (typically not larger than 1 hectare in size) spread across the region.

Decanter, May 2023

The 2022 Faiveley Corton is surprisingly fresh and lively for a warm year, with a forward red and black fruit character and a pronounced floral edge with hints of violets and roses. The texture is supple but reasonably dense, and the fresh acidity supports the wine through a long finish. The grapes from Faiveley's 2.77-hectare monopole were partially destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in cask (half new).

Wine Spectator, September 2024

A solid, broad-shouldered red, offering a compact matrix of tannins and buried cherry and blackberry fruit, with vivid acidity driving it all. Mineral and spice notes join a touch of sandalwood to accent the fruit as this plays out on the superlong finish.

James Suckling, July 2024

Brimming with candied lemon and fresh pomelo aromas. Very attractive interplay of discrete fruit, flinty character and fine tannins on the quite sleek, medium-bodied palate. Remarkable mineral character in the finish for the humble appellation. A cuvee that is half from domaine vineyards in the Cote Chalonnais and half from the Cote d'Or. Matured primarily in oak casks, plus a smaller part in stainless steel.

(from the Domaine founders of Charles Giraud and Maxime Latour – the fruit derives from multiple lieux-dits that include Les Corbins, Le Cromin, Les Chevalières, Les Crotots, Les Vireuils, Les Pelles, Le Limozin and Les Malpoiriers). Here too whiffs of petrol and phenolic character add breadth to the aromas of essence of pear, orange peel and acacia blossom. The dense, sappy and beautifully textured medium weight flavors possess excellent depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This offers excellent quality for its level and is warmly recommended.

About MARC MOREY

MARC MOREY

The Morey family is one of the most well-known in the Côte de Beaune. Since the mid-nineties Domaine Marc Morey has been an estate on the rise, under the stewardship of Marie-Jo Morey and her winemaker husband Bernard Mollard. Today, the estate is run by Marie-Jo and Bernard's daughter Sabine, who shares her father's remarkable talent for crafting beautiful and stylish white Burgundy that is built to last.

(from a whopping 2.02 ha parcel, which effectively means that the domaine
owns 89% of the appellation; because the other owner does not declare their wine as En Virondot, Mollard jokingly calls her
version a “commercial” monopole). Here too there is enough post-bottling reduction to render an evaluation of the nose
difficult. By contrast, there is solid mid-palate concentration and a gorgeous texture to the overtly stony medium-bodied flavors
that terminate in a youthfully austere chiseled and bone-dry finale. This is also tightly wound and a wine that is clearly going to
need at least some patience and I would advise a minimum of 5 years first.

(from a .80 ha holding in Les Bondues). This is the first wine to display any significant reduction and here it’s enough to push the underlying fruit to the background. By contrast there is both good freshness and verve suffusing the caressing and seductive medium-bodied flavors that brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in a sappy bitter citrus-tinged finale. This generously proportioned effort has the legs to repay mid-term keeping up to a decade yet is sufficiently pliant to be approachable young if desired.
