Most Admired Wine Brand 2025 by Drinks International
On March 27th, Drinks International announced that Catena was voted The World’s Most Admired Wine Brand of 2025 by a hand-picked academy of experts. Catena is the only Argentine winery featured in this year’s ranking.
In the words of Drinks International: “The family-owned Argentinean brand, under the guardianship of Laura Catena, is synonymous with the Malbec grape. This also marks the second time taking the top spot, and the sixth time as the most admired brand in South America.”
The voting academy is composed of 100 independent wine buyers, sommeliers, MWs, leading bartenders, writers and educators to ensure unbiased results. The panel is asked to name the five wine brands they most admire, in descending order, considering the following criteria: the quality and consistency of the wine, the price-to-quality ratio, the strength of the branding, and other factors, such as sustainability and social and corporate responsibility. Voting took place during February 2025 and each year they rotate a proportion of the academy to ensure a fair and progressive voting pool.
After maintaining top positions for the past four years, the Catena family winery reached #1 in 2025 as the World’s Most Admired Wine Brand. Catena previously took first place in the ranking in 2020, marking this year’s award as the second time in the top spot.
Dr. Laura Catena, the winery’s fourth generation and managing director says: “This award for Catena goes to all the great people, past and present, who have worked at our family winery since 1902, to our region’s beautiful vineyards, and to our fellow wine lovers around the world.”
Catena joins all 50 renowned brands and celebrates this great achievement, one that highlights its commitment to high quality winemaking and continued efforts to make wines that can stand with the best in the world.

Wine Advocate, August 2023
There is an usual stony austerity in the 2021 Adrianna Vineyard River, cropped from a cold year when the full clusters fermented in concrete with a slightly shorter maceration and an élevage in a 2,000-liter oak foudre and the rest in stainless steel. It has a moderate 13.4% alcohol with very high acidity (8.2!) and a low pH (3.37), incredible parameters of freshness. The wine was closed and took time to take off in the glass, revealing a very elegant and subtle personality, with the silky texture of the very fine tannins, pristine aromas and flavors and a sense of harmony that was moving. It's powerful but extremely elegant in that rare combination of clout and energy, a wine of light, aerial, with some ethereal qualities, delicate and refined. This combines the cool place and high altitude, the cool year and the stony soils, to deliver a stunning Malbec that goes well beyond the variety. Bravo!

Vinous, June 2023
The 2021 Malbec Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae is sourced from a small plot situated in Gualtallary, featuring a soil profile with a depth of one meter. It underwent a meticulous 16-month aging process in foudres and concrete vats and exhibits a dark purple hue. The nose presents enticing lavender, mint, mountain herbs, orange peel and curry aromas layered over a foundation of dried flowers. The palate offers a compelling combination of dryness and juiciness. The rich and taut mouthfeel imparts a vibrant energy that flows into a compact yet delicately lingering finish. A unique and flavorful Malbec, it marries a primary style with a terroir-driven conceptual approach.

James Suckling, April 2023
A very mineral, flinty chardonnay full of wet stones, lime and some green fruit. Austere and chalky on the medium-bodied palate, really transparent and elegant with super bright and beautifully integrated acidity. Pure, linear and long.

James Suckling, May 2024
This is always aromatic, exotic and idiosyncratic, with its enchanting aromas of green fruit, green curry, citrus, ash, green passion fruit and spearmint. Almost full-bodied on the palate with lots of mineral tension. Bright acidity quickly takes over, followed by a long, bone-dry finish that goes on and on. So pure, unique and thought-provoking.
