Clos des Fous
An ambitious project started by Pedro Parra and Francois Massoc – Chilean industry legends – and now spearheaded by Paco Leyton, focusing on cooler climate zones in southern Chile searching for cold, clouds, rain, and old vines.
This is the land of gnarly old vines (País, Muscat or sporadic pockets of Carignan and Cinsault among others) and is the heart of Chile's colonial winemaking past.

Fresh & precise Pinot for Burgundy lovers. Subtle cherry pit fruit and plenty of earthy tones in perfect balance, we could drink this all day. Savory nose of green peppercorn, autumn leaves, wet slate, and forest floor. Very pretty pale color is deceptive, as this falls closer to medium bodied for Pinot. Strawberry seeds, mushroom, and graphite on the palate.

Wine Advocate, August 2021
The red blend 2017 Cauquenina is approximately of 40% Carignan, 30% País, 20% Cinsault and 10% Carmenere, quite different from previous years and higher in Carignan and with a notable percentage of Cinsault. It fermented at low temperature and matured in concrete and 5,000-liter oak foudre for six months. There is a little more rusticity here, perhaps the higher percentage of Cariñena this year. There is also a smoky and spicy note reminiscent of the Chilean spice mix called merkén, with some notes of graphite too. It's medium-bodied and has some dusty tannins.
