Elegant and Fresh Champagne Ayala

Founded in 1860 by Edmond de Ayala, Champagne Ayala is a pioneer of drier style champagne. In 1865 the house made a bold move and released a champagne with a dosage of 21 g/L. At that time, dosage was traditionally more than 150 g/L.

On now until December 31, 2022 Champagne Ayala Brut Majeur is $5 off per bottle at BC Liqour Stores. Also available are rosés non-vintage Rosé Majeur and the 2014 Brut No 14, 90 and 93 points, respectively.

Fresh and creamy Brut with lemon pith, apples, almonds, oats and hints of honey. Medium bubbles with a biscuity palate and a linear, focused finish. Chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. Disgorged July 2021. Drink now.

The NV Champagne Majeur Brut Rosé pours a nearly electric pink hue with aromas of strawberry, white peach, and bread dough. It is medium-bodied, although it is ripe on the mid-palate, with raspberry fruit, melon, and a light saline touch. It has a pretty and easy-drinking style to enjoy over the next 8-10 years.

There's a pronounced character of long lees ageing, with salty, savoury flavours of lees dominating the undertone, and the lees ageing seems to impart a body and richness of texture as well. It's complex, still fresh with the core of Chardonnay.
