Celebrating Trialto's 25th Anniversary - Azelia Library Offer
Reflecting on our 25th anniversary, we wouldn’t be where we are without enjoying many bottles of Barolo over the years. We feel fortunate to have incredible Barolo producers in our portfolio, and one in particular, that feels more like family, is Azelia.
When we asked our partners to share something special from their cellars that we can pass on to our valued customers, Azelia (they celebrated their cententary in 2020) wowed us with six different vintages dating from 2010 to as far back as 1999!
“My dream is to make a wine that is great today, but that will be even better in 10 years and in 20 years,” said Luigi Scavino, Azelia 4th generation proprietor and vintner, in a Wine Advocate article from October 2006. Having tasted the 2010 Barolo very recently, our experience is a testament to the realization of his dream.
It has been our pleasure to share Azelia's wines with Western Canada over the years, somewhat of a Barolo lover's secret. We encourage you to take advantage of this extraordinary offer and celebrate our 25th anniversary with us.
Cheers!

2010 Barolo - Magnum
We begin this offer with the magnum of Azelia's Barolo, from one of the best vintages in Barolo of the 21st century, 2010.
It's a mix of 7 different single vineyards from Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d’Alba and aged for two years in large casks. What makes this a standout Barolo are the old vines (average age 50 years) and always added to the blend are grapes from Bricco Voghera (vines are more than 95 years old!), made only as a Riserva in exceptional years and aged for 10 years before release.

The chewy texture gives definition to the cherry, plum, licorice and tar flavors. The tannins are surprisingly civilized, making this Barolo relatively open and fluid for the vintage. Tightens up on the finish.

2006 Margheria
Entirely south facing, Azelia's Margheria cru is situated 250-360m above sea level in Serralunga d'Alba in the higher westerly aspect. Vines are on average 60 years old today. It's an exceptional site producing outstanding wines in the short term but built for aging.

Vinous, February 2010
The 2006 Barolo Margheria is totally Serralunga in its dark, vibrant fruit, violets, tar, iron, smoke and licorice. Endowed with tons of length and energy, the Margheria reveals notable complexity and a wiry, taut expression of fruit. Although impressive for its sheer power, my only wish is that the Margheria had a touch more depth to match its formidable structure. The wine's balance, though, is terrific.

2004 San Rocco - Magnum
In the early 1990s, it wasn't common to purchase land outside your commune. Luigi however adored the wines of Serralunga d'Alba and decided to invest in San Rocco, the first vineyard the family purchased outside Castiglione Falletto. This monopole faces south, situated 320m above sea level and generally offers up a darker character than other crus in Serralunga.

Vinous, May 2015
The 2004 Barolo San Rocco is in a gorgeous place right now. Expressive savory and floral notes open up in a lifted Serralunga Barolo endowed with superb underlying depth and textural richness. Ample, layered and beautifully expressive through to the finish, the 2004 is just as impressive today as it was from barrel. The 2004 spent two years in French oak barrels, 20% new.

2008 (Magnum), 2001, 1999 Bricco Fiasco
In 1978, Luigi's father decided to highlight the family's special site Castiglione Faletto by bottling one of the first single vineyard wines in Barolo. The vines were replanted in the 1940s by Luigi's father and these same vines today yield small bunches of spectacular fruit.

Vinous, April 2012
The 2008 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is a big, serious wine endowed with layers of black fruit, iron, smoke, licorice and tar. Some of the brighter, higher-toned aromas that are often present in this vineyard are missing in 2008. Instead readers will find a big, full-bodied Barolo graced with exceptional overall balance and tons of energy. The energy and focus of the virile finish is something to behold. The Bricco Fiasco was aged in French oak barrels, 20% new.
