Burghound.com, October 2022

(from Montmains proper, one-third of which was barrel aged). A more elegant and notably more floral-suffused nose reflects notes of spice, white orchard fruit and lemongrass along with enough Chablis character to be convincing. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the delicious and well-detailed flavors that also conclude in a moderately dry and lingering finish where the only nit is the impression of warmth despite the low-ish alcohol level. This too should drink well on the younger side if that’s your preference.

Decanter, May 2023

Red fruited Pinot Noir from a collection of Dundee Hills sites in the Sokol Blosser portfolio. Floral aromatics of dried violets give way to fresh cranberry relish and wintergreen aromatics. The palate offers a streak of umami underlying bing cherry flesh and ripe raspberries.

Matured for 24 months in American oak (14% new) and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads. Magenta in the glass with aromas of blood plum, mulberry and boysenberry cut with baking spices, dark chocolate, almond blossom, white pepper, licorice and earth. Fruit-pure with fine, sandy tannins and a nice flow of plummy fruit on the finish.

The Bricco dell’Oriolo vineyard is close to Luigi’s heart as it was owned by his mother’s family. Located in the commune of Montelupo Albese , 13km south of Alba. The vines are on average 45 years old and are planted on south facing calcareous, sandy slopes. Luigi could have easily planted Nebbiolo here and charged more money for the wine, however he will never compromise quality and knows that this vineyard will produce the best Dolcetto possible. Modern and traditional techniques are used to achieve a balance of fresh fruit and terroir. Only natural yeasts are used and enzymes are never added. Fermentation is carried out using temperature controlled rotofermenters and the Dolcetto is aged in stainless steel. The wines are unfined and unfiltered and stabilisation is carried out using gravity.
