Legendary Catena Zapata
Catena truly is one of the most exciting wineries on the planet. The attention to detail here is second to none and you would be hard pressed to find a producer who spends more time, effort and money on research, in addition to the pursuit of excellence.

Wine Advocate on CATENA

Catena is almost equivalent to Argentine quality wine, as Nicolas Catena was the true pioneer and is still the most important wine personality in Argentina...They are so forward thinking and smart as they are still at the head of quality wines in the country, doing amazing research and never resting on their laurels. Alejandro Vigil is one of the most passionate and intuitive winemakers on Earth, and he’s also completely crazy about wine...We need more of these champions in the wine world. The result can be no other than superb wines, with some groundbreaking whites that could compete with the finest white Burgundies and the most amazing Malbecs you can think of.

Wine Advocate, October 2019
I felt more austerity and better balance in the 2017 Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae compared with the wines from warmer years; it feels harmonious and very integrated. There is some citrus freshness in the nose, remarkable for the conditions of the year. The palate shows even more serious than the nose, with chalky minerality and a drying sensation that adds to the grip, giving it a profile that I like very much, making it feel like a superb year for this bottling. This is really very good this year, and the acidity is very integrated. In fact, the wine is very balanced and compact, with all the ingredients greatly integrated. 5,400 bottles were filled in October 2018.

Adrianna Vineyard
Planted at altitude (1450m/4757ft) in a quest to make fresher more structured wines Nicolas Catena was called crazy and told that the fruit would never ripen. Undeterred he planted anyway.
The wines today are some of the freshest, most structured and balanced in all of Argentina. Due to the altitude, the grapes produce dramatically thicker skins in order to protect the seeds from the sun (an adaptive evolutionary development in the quest to ensure propagation of the vine). This increases the phenolic material in the grapes substantially from those vinified at lower elevations.
The altitude also allows for huge shifts in day and night time temperature which allow the grapes to get ripe, but retain ever important acidity. The balance obtained from this freshness is exactly what Nicolas hoped when he planted the vineyard. The increase in phenolics was a beautiful surprise and the site is exceeding the Catena’s already lofty ambitions.
