Celebrating Trialto's 25th Anniversary - Catena Library Offer

For 25 years our team has proudly shared our passion for wines of People, Place and Time. There have been many people who have helped along the way to make Trialto what it is today, including the people of Catena who have become like family.

At heart, Catena is a story about family. It all started in 1902 but it wasn’t until the 1980s when 3rd generation Nicolás Catena armed himself and later his daughter Laura with the vision of elevating Catena and Argentine wines. Nicolás’s dream was for his family’s wines to be appreciated and recognized amongst the very best in the world. The father and daughter duo are a fierce force. Their high standard of excellence has brought them much acclaim over the years, for their wines and for their work. Most recently, Catena was voted number one at the World’s Best Vineyards 2023 ceremony in La Rioja, Spain.

In 2018, Catena joined La Place with two wines, one of which is Nicolás Catena Zapata, the winery’s top Cabernet Sauvignon blend. It was first recognized for its excellence with the inaugural 1997 vintage when it won a series of blind tastings against some of the most prestigious wines in the world, putting a new quality benchmark for South American wines. The wine is a nod to the “Original Bordeaux Blend” of the 18th and 19th centuries when Malbec was more dominant than Merlot. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec grapes here are massale selections from prephylloxera ungrafted vines, 200 rows of them. With the standard Catena meticulous care and attention, harvest is manual then grapes are vinified separately by row.

In 2022, Le Figaro, a prominent newspaper in France recognized Nicolás Catena Zapata 2019 alongside many of the most important wines in the world, which included some of Nicolás’s Bordeaux benchmarks: Petrus, Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Margaux - another testament to the caliber of this Argentine wine! It’s wonderfully special then that the Catena family sent to share with our valued customers Nicolás Catena Zapata from 2007, an excellent vintage for cooler climate vineyards such as Adrianna (1450 m altitude) and Nicasia (1095 m altitude) -- grapes from both are in this cuvée.

We invite you to join in our 25th anniversary celebrations with this special library wine, and if you can resist temptation you’ll certainly be rewarded with its further evolution with the peak drinking window extending to 2032.

Cheers!

Wine Advocate, December 2010

The flagship, the 2007 Nicolas Catena Zapata, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, and the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It delivers an enthralling aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, mineral, espresso, mocha, incense, lavender, black currant, black cherry, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied, powerful yet elegant effort with great depth and volume, precision balance, and a voluptuous personality (a D-cup of a wine). It conceals plenty of structure and will effortlessly evolve for 6-8 years, drinking well through 2032 if not longer.
