Wine Advocate on DOG POINT VINEYARD

After more than ten vintages under their own label, it almost seems silly to mention that owners Ivan Sutherland and James Healy worked together at Cloudy Bay, but that's where their journey started, as viticulturist and winemaker, respectively. Sourcing fruit from the Sutherland family's expansive vineyard holdings along the southern edge of the Wairau Valley, the two continue to turn out exemplary Marlborough wines.

An intriguing bouqet with restrained citrus notes, exotic fruits and floral tones. The palate shows nutty flavours with nice weight and texture. Pair this wine with fish (salmon), poultry and soft white cheeses.

The trademark reductive complexity will surprise the regular sauvignon-blanc drinker and delight those who delve into great white Burgundy. Flinty lemon and grapefruit pith and really fresh, river-stone minerals, the palate has a gently creamy array of lime and green-mango flavors. Super wine.

This is very convincing, complex and downright impressive pinot noir. The intense aromas of ripe cherries and plums are framed in such intensely attractive oak spice and earthy, sous-bois complexity. The palate has regal, polished and powerful tannin and carries a vibrant core of very attractive, rich dark cherries.
