Wine Advocate on FAIVELEY
|
|
Jérôme Flous and his team can't seem to put a foot wrong at Faiveley; and given the high level of vineyard management and skill and precision brought to bear in the winery and the cellar, I think it's fair to say this is one of the finest larger domaine and négociant operations in Burgundy in terms of both quality and consistency.

Vinous, November 2022
The 2021 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has such an expressive and vivacious nose that positively leaps out of the glass. In fact, if you just imagine a neon plus sign, that probably expresses the aromatics better than anything else. Happy at its survival after the frost? The palate is very well balanced with grace and poise, Williams pear mixed with white peach, tensile on the citric finish. Excellent

Decanter, May 2023
Faiveley's half-hectare of Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet was acquired in 2008 as part of the acquisition of Domaine Monnot, which was engineered by Erwan Faiveley and then-CEO Bernard Hervet. Running the length of the vineyard downslope from the ex-Monnot parcel of Bâtard, it has delivered in 2022 a wine of great elegance, with a ripe pear and marzipan fruit and abundant floral notes. The texture is rich without being heavy, and the finish lingers invitingly on the palate.

Wine Advocate, January 2023
The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was cropped at a mere 12 hectoliters per hectare, yet it remains quite classic in profile, exhibiting notes of lemon zest, pear, nutmeg and pastry cream, followed by a full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate with a satiny attack and a racy spine of acidity, concluding with a chalky finish.

James Suckling, July 2024
This has all the racy and stony character of this grand cru site, marrying it to a fabulous elegance that makes this quite full-bodied chardonnay glide over your palate. The great concentration and power are adeptly underplayed, but they drive an extremely long, chalky and saline finish that's totally fascinating. From four plots facing east, ranging from the bottom to the top of the hill. From organically grown grapes.

James Suckling, February 2019
The super fresh, sour-cherry nose leads you into a very concentrated and focused red with a lot of mineral and graphite character. The tannins are a shade firmer than in the other Grand Crus from Faiveley, but it was always that way. Deep, dark and cool finish that goes on and on.

Decanter, May 2023
The 2022 Faiveley Corton is surprisingly fresh and lively for a warm year, with a forward red and black fruit character and a pronounced floral edge with hints of violets and roses. The texture is supple but reasonably dense, and the fresh acidity supports the wine through a long finish. The grapes from Faiveley's 2.77-hectare monopole were partially destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in cask (half new).

Wine Spectator, September 2024
Spearmint and vanilla accents frame the cherry, blackberry, plum and stony mineral flavors in this dense, monolithic red. It's all pulled together by vibrant acidity, while beefy tannins ply the fresh, mouthwatering finish. Though this is disjointed now, the long aftertaste shows both its pedigree and potential.

Decanter, May 2023
This superb example of one of Faiveley's top wines from Gevrey seduces with expressive mulberry and pomegranate fruit, hints of rose petals and suggestions of star anise, smoke and earth. This wine is more firmly tannic and substantial than the Charmes-Chambertin, with a saline minerality and penetrating length that should open up three to five years after release and drink for another 20 after that. As Erwan noted, the style is 'caught between Clos de la Roche and Chambertin'; the domaine owns nearly 1.3 hectares that are being replanted slowly.

Wine Spectator, August 2024
Sleek, silky and bursting with energy and intensity, this red offers cherry, strawberry, rose, incense, graphite and oak spice aromas and flavors. Impeccably balanced, with ripe fruit, freshness and a discreet structure that lends plenty of support. The aftertaste goes on and on.

James Suckling, July 2024
The enormously deep and dark nose of wet earth and spicy complexity barely prepares you for the combination of gigantic concentration, precision and originality on the stunningly graceful palate, which is only medium-bodied. The finish just keeps echoing down the valleys of your mind thanks to the extraordinarily fine tannins. From three plots in this legendary site totaling 1.4 hectares. From organically grown grapes. Matured in 50% new oak and 50% once-used oak
