Wine Advocate on FAIVELEY

Titre

This was an impressive tasting with Eve and Erwan Faiveley and able winemaker Jérôme Flous. Likening the vintage to "a broader-shouldered 2007," a judgment with which I wholeheartedly concur, Flous presented a selection of some of the 2017 portfolio's high points. Supple, expressive and nicely integrated, the reds showed very well; and the two whites were simply superb.

Gismondi on Wine
- 89 Points -

Anthony Gismondi, April 2020

Founded in 1825, the Faiveley family established themselves among the most prestigious vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 120 hectares of selected plots, seldom bigger than a single hectare. It is an upscale introductory that celebrates all the annual La Paulée fetes held across Burgundy to mark the end of the grape harvest. Expect an entirely correct red fruited pinot that comes with a touch of weight and power you might not be expecting. Excellent acidity and a spicy back end make it a perfect mid-week dinner red for salmon, or pork. A top-level Bourgogne for sure.

Fine depth of flavor and juicy cherry fruit mark this red. Licorice, plum, spice and stone notes complement the core of ripe cherry. Harmonious enough to enjoy now.

About FAIVELEY

FAIVELEY

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, but after seven generations of steadily acquiring properties the Faiveley family have established themselves as the most important vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 120 hectares of painstakingly selected small plots (typically not larger than 1 hectare in size) spread across the region.
