Inglenook Estate
Francis Ford Coppola’s Inglenook Estate is on an exceptional run. In 2011 Philippe Bascaules joined Inglenook after spending 20 years at the legendary First Growth Chateaux Margaux, first as assistant to the Estate Director and later as the Estate Director overseeing viticulture and vinification. As General Manager of Inglenook, Bascaules has moved the wines in a more elegant and classic direction. The improvement on what were already exceptional wines has been profound.
In 2017 Bascaules returned to Chateaux Margaux to take over as General Manager after the untimely death of Paul Pontallier. He will remain as Director of Winemaking for Inglenook, overseeing the 50 year vineyard plan that he put in place with the Coppola family.
The wines have never been better. The combination of Francis’s vision, the estate’s history, exceptional terroir, and the remarkable talent of the winemaking team has this winery on the path to potentially becoming as famous as that of Bascaules' other job!

January 2020
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and boisterous in feel, with good energy and terrific balance for the year. Sweet floral notes, blood orange and spice add shades of nuance to a core of dark red berry fruit. More than anything else, though, I am very pleasantly surprised by the wine's freshness and overall energy

Decanter, August 2020
A small production, Cabernet-dominated blend that gives ripe red plum and black cherry flavours, tightly wound but wrapped in silky tannins - meaning this has a power to it but in a more accessible delivery. Confident and spiced with flavour and plenty of signature Inglenook balance. Named after the year Gustave Niebaum delivered the first vintage of his new Rutherford estate. 15% new French oak, the rest one-fill barrels both French and American.

Decanter, August 2020
This is absolutely delicious. Powerful, intense and concentrated with seductive black cherry and raspberry leaf aromatics. It slowly and steadily pulls you in and compares to the very greatest Cabernets in its excitement, structure and grip. As the liquorice, chocolate and cassis notes stretch out, it comes to a mouthwateringly slow conclusion. This keeps the savoury edge of Cabernet and the tannins give focus and poise. Opulent and concentrated, and very good. 100% new oak.
