Azelia Barbera - Gentle, Yet Striking with Great Structure

True to Azelia fashion, their wines across the board are standouts.

Azelia's Barbera comes from the top of a hill in Castiglione Falletto, usually a site reserved for Nebbiolo. The more than 60-year-old vines are naturally low yielding, contributing concentration and richness. Further adding to the wine's complexity and structure is the 18 months in oak barrels - the DOC doesn't mandate any aging for Barbera d'Alba.

A great wine to enjoy now and given its pedigree can benefit from cellar aging as well.

Vinous, September 2021

The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Punta is soft, racy and engaging. Black cherry, plum, spice, cedar and tobacco flesh out nicely. The 2017 is quite soft and fruity, and yet remains very much medium-bodied in feel. Drink it over the next few years.

Argiano Rosso - Born Ready. Suprises Over Time.

As Brunello's younger sibling, this Rosso from Argiano holds its own. From vineyards that are 12 to 22 years old sitting at 280-310 metres above sea level, it's a Sangiovese that is "born ready and that knows how to surprise over time."

Vinous, January 2021

The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino boasts an herbal-tinged black cherry and balsamic spiced bouquet. Rich, dark textural waves of woodland berries and minerals wash across the palate, leaving a coating of grippy young tannin in their wake, along with a sizzling of residual acids. While quite tense, this leaves the mouth watering for more, finishing with a persistent flourish of red fruit and minerals.

Feudo Maccari Saia - Nero d'Avola From Where Two Seas Meet

Feudo Maccari is located in southeastern Sicily, where the Mediterranean and Ionian Seas meet. Trained in the albarello method, this mini “tree-like” system dates back to the first Greek settlers in the 8th century and protects the grape bunches from the searing sun. It requires great manual care. This vine training along with the vineyards’ proximity to the sea, and aging in French oak barrels result in a Nero d’Avola that is complex and unique.

James Suckling, January 2021

Sweet and sour-cherry with walnut and toasted-oak aromas that follow through to a full body with juicy fruit and chewy tannin on the palate. Savory. Smoky meat at the end with lovely fruit.
