About CIACCI PICCOLOMINI D'ARAGONA

CIACCI PICCOLOMINI D'ARAGONA

Tenuta Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona is a spectacular estate in one of the most beautiful and unspoiled regions of Italy. The style of the wines is staunchly traditional, which is to say that they are much rounder and more elegant than many of the Brunellos that have become famous in recent years. Given their superlative quality the wines are outstanding value.

James Suckling, November 2016

Aromas of plums, flowers, fresh mushrooms and violets. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long, long finish. Beautiful balance and length. Powerful tannins underneath the exquisite fruit. Great finish. Goes on for minutes.

James Suckling, October 2014

A red with sliced meat, dark chocolate, berry and spice. Full body, silky tannins and a tangy finish. A harmonious and beautiful wine. This is so layered and fabulous. So wonderful. These riserva Brunellos from Ciacci are always phenomenal. Drink now.

About AZELIA

AZELIA

If Azelia's Barolos needed to be described in a single word, that word would be 'elegant'. The wines have always been a pure expression of nebbiolo, silky textured and harmonious, never over extracted or excessively oaky. If their intrinsic balance makes them approachable when they are young, it also makes them supremely age-worthy. Azelia is unquestionably one of Langhe's best value producers.

Vinous, April 2012

The 2001 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is one of the most impressive wines in this ten-year retrospective of the 2001 Baroli. The Bricco Fiasco remains vibrant, fresh and beautifully delineated from start to finish. Bright flowers, ripe red cherries, mint and iron flow onto the palate in this gorgeous, totally impeccable Barolo. The 2001 doesn't taste or feel that much different than it did as a young wine. There is plenty of energy and focus for the 2001 to make it to its 20th birthday. If opened today the wine needs at least a few hours of air for the tannins to soften.

Vinous, February 2010

The 2006 Barolo Margheria is totally Serralunga in its dark, vibrant fruit, violets, tar, iron, smoke and licorice. Endowed with tons of length and energy, the Margheria reveals notable complexity and a wiry, taut expression of fruit. Although impressive for its sheer power, my only wish is that the Margheria had a touch more depth to match its formidable structure. The wine's balance, though, is terrific.

James Suckling, May 2016

The clarity and precision to this wine are phenomenal with blackcurrants, floral notes, blueberries, and orange peel. Complex and subtle with grace and stature. Full body, ultra-polished and refined tannins and bright acidity. The wine needs three to four years to open on the palate, but already it has a caressing quality to it.

Vinous, December 2018

A dense, succulent wine, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon captures all the raw power and density of the year. The 2015 is just starting to soften, but ideally it needs another few years in bottle to be at its finest. Readers should expect an especially opulent style, and yet the 2015 has more than enough depth to drink well for another 15+ years or more.
