Lucien Crochet purposely do not send out wines for review, so has been under the radar of major international attention. However, Lucien’s son, Gilles, was a highly respected vigneron in the wine community in France. He left Sancerre in 1978 to study oenology in Dijon and later trained at Domaine Dujac in Morey-Saint-Denis where he learned their approach to working with pinot noir. Returning to the Loire in 1983, he applied new techniques he learned and continued experimenting vinifying several cuvées with each vintage.

Sadly, Gilles suddenly passed away last year. He was very passionate about life which resonated into his craft describing winemaking “akin to expressing an emotion; you always try to be as precise as you can in bringing out the purity of the grapes grown on their particular terroir.” The team at Lucien Crochet will continue producing wines following Gilles's methods.

This family winery based in the village of Bué is one of the appellation's finest, making sophisticated and age-worthy Sancerre.

"Les Calcaires" by Lucien Crochet is a pure Sauvignon produced in one of the most prestigious and historic terroirs of origin: the Loire Valley. The deep and multifaceted minerality that characterizes the olfactory bouquet is an unmistakable feature of the calcareous soil of Buè, from which this label takes its name. The same flavor we find on the palate, more measured and enveloping
