Still has a whiff of youthful funk (from reduction), but after a couple of swirls of the glass this blossoms, becoming fragrant and expressive. The fine-grained tannins and mineral acidity give this a wonderful texture on the palate that’s not quite like anything else in Beaujolais. Very long, silky finish. From organically grown grapes. Unfiltered.

The 2018er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese was made from clean grapes harvested at a full 95° Oechsle, and was fermented down to fully sweet levels of residual sugar (95 g/l). It offers a beautiful nose of bitter lemon, mirabelle, laurel and whipped cream. The wine delivers nice flavours of pear, ginger, Provence herbs, cream and herbs, and leaves the beautifully racy but unctuous structure of an Auslese in the finish. It remains beautifully playful in the after-taste. |

The 2020 Pinot Noir Block 5 offers up a mouthful of gorgeous Pinot Noir that's perfectly ripe without being overripe, blossoming in the mouth but retaining focus and shape as if it is wearing a pair of control pants. It's a wine that’s at ease with itself, offering rich red berries, fruitcake, festive spices and a subtle floral lift. There are plentiful tannins – in the context of Pinot Noir – and they coat the mouth like melted chocolate, making you want to lick your lips long after drinking. Overall, a finely balanced wine that has captured power and seduction in the same package. Lengthy, brooding finish. |

Volcanic Hill - 96 Pts
Beautiful aromas of brambleberries and blueberries with some conifer and mushrooms. Floral, too. Medium to full body, very fine tannins and succulent fruit and spices. Extremely long and subtle. Glorious and refined now, but will be better with age.
Red Rock Terrace - 97 Pts
This is riper and richer than the other two single-vineyard reds from here with more density on the palate and a beautiful, velvety texture. It’s full and beautiful. Extremely long and luscious, but still reserved and not too flamboyant. Classic Red Rock Terrace. Give it a few years to come together completely.
Gravelly Meadow - 95 Pts
Very classic Gravelly on the nose with plums, currants and hot stones, as well as spices. Medium body, ultra-fine tannins and a beautiful, delicious finish. Purity and finesse. |
