Decanter on MMAD VINEYARD

Titre

Michael Hill Smith MW, Martin Shaw, Adam Wadewitz and David LeMire MW are also behind sister-labels Shaw + Smith, up the road in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, and Tolpuddle Vineyard down in Tasmania [...] Made in the first year of ownership, the maiden releases in the MMAD range share the restraint, clarity, precision and fruit purity seen in the Tolpuddle Vineyard and Shaw + Smith wines. Helped in 2021 by the mild ripening conditions.

Its clarity matches its freshness; 10% whole bunches, 90% whole berry, 20 days in Italian-made tulip-shapes concrete 4-tonne fermenters, maturated. 15 months in old French puncheons. The highly fragrant blend of cherry and plum drives a long, fine, elegant palate.

James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion), September 2022

Deep, bright colour; a wine of tremendous presence, the whole bunch component 15-20%, 15 days on skins, 33% in concrete vessels, the balance in stainless steel and used oak. A magical combination of techniques to produce blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate flavours, the tannins almost silky.

About MMAD VINEYARD

MMAD VINEYARD

MMAD Vineyard is owned by a partnership of four wine professionals, Martin Shaw, Michael Hill Smith MW, Adam Wadewitz and David LeMire MW. MMAD Vineyard has Grenache that was all planted in 1939, as well as Shiraz and Chenin Blanc, the oldest of which were planted in 1941 and 1964 respectively. The team’s philosophy in the vineyard is to continuously improve soil and vine health, and to promote diversity of plants, insects, and the microbiome.
