Holiday Gift Guide, Part 1: Old World Wines
It’s that time of year where we release our Holiday Gift Guide. The premise, as in previous years, is that we try to replicate the wine media’s Top 10 or Top 100 wine lists (Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, etc) with a collection of our most sought after, highest scoring wines.
All the wines below are in stock and available to order. The line has been drawn at a fairly difficult to achieve 95 points. Everything on this list scored at least 95 or above from a reputable media source.
We are very proud of the wines our partners produce and thrilled to import such a broad range of exceptional products. As always, click on any of the individual wines below to read more on our website or contact us directly if you have any questions – just hit reply. We love to talk about wine and would love to help you find something special! |

James Suckling, January 2024
Poured from a magnum, this age-worthy wine is snappy and precise in texture, offering abundant minerals, orange zest and white peach in the aroma and crisp, stony flavors on the palate. Focused, invigorating and still young, it will drink best from 2028.

Decanter, May 2023
The 2022 Faiveley Corton is surprisingly fresh and lively for a warm year, with a forward red and black fruit character and a pronounced floral edge with hints of violets and roses. The texture is supple but reasonably dense, and the fresh acidity supports the wine through a long finish. The grapes from Faiveley's 2.77-hectare monopole were partially destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in cask (half new).

Decanter, October 2024
Bollinger continues its quest to highlight its Pinot Noir expertise with arguably the most exciting and focused wine yet in the PN series, focusing on the grand cru village of Verzenay from 2019 (backed up with reserves from all around the Montagne de Reims and Grande Vallée, 25% of which comes directly from magnums). It weaves a beautiful line between the clear, long and ultra-fine Pinot of Verzenay, mineral and understated, the quiet power of the 2019 vintage, and the stunning complexity of reserves. Baked apricot, scorched orange citrus and soft raspberry fruits, with toasty nougat, cocoa and dried pear ageing characters. A striking wine of persistent, tightly packed quality, holding terrific mid-term potential.

James Suckling, July 2022
Very deep and concentrated with fantastic mineral freshness lifting the substantial body, this is a sparkling chardonnay masterpiece. Great candied-citrus and chalky complexity at the expansive finish, yet this remains so pure and straight. From vines planted in 1911 and 1982. Disgorged in April, 2021. Drink or hold.

Jeb Dunnuck, February 2022
The 2017 Côte Rôtie Cote Blonde La Chatillonne shows the pretty, sunny style of the vintage and brings medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of black raspberries, cured meats, exotic spices, and dried flowers. It doesn’t have the density of the 2018, but it’s just a classy, complex, incredibly satisfying Côte Rôtie to drink any time over the coming 15+ years.

James Suckling, November 2022
Roasted herbs, walnuts, olives, dried cherries and balsamic on the nose with a touch of leather and sage. It’s full-bodied with firm, finely-knit tannins. Creamy and so well integrated with depth and class.

Decanter, March 2022
Planted in 1984, Bugialla is a 4ha plot at 500 metres on stony Galestro soil. Owner Piero Lanza picks the larger bunches first for the Chianti Classico and leaves the smaller bunches to ripen longer for the Riserva. Just bottled, the 2019 is shy but with coaxing, aromas of herbs and lavender emerge. Tight on the entry, it expands with a soft ripeness of charming brambly fruit, succulent with compact chalky tannins. Intricately textured and long.

Vinous, July 2017
The 2015 Oreno is fabulous. Rich, sumptuous and yet very much medium in body, the 2015 has it all going on. Silky tannins and juicy, pliant fruit add to the wine's considerable appeal. Succulent dark cherry, plum, chocolate, mocha and licorice infuse this racy, showy Tuscan red. The 2015 is one of the best vintages of Oreno I have tasted of late.

The latest release of this top wine is as impressive as ever, a rich medley of flavors enhanced by 16 months in wood. The black fruits combine with structure to give a wine with a great future.

Decanter, January 2022
Impressive, richly constituted, and substantial wine. The aromas are complex, with plum and mulberry fruit accented with earthy, meaty, savoury notes and hints of saline/mineral on the finish. The texture is dense, tannic, and firm, with lots of extract and a finish that lingers interminably on the palate. Although this is a classic Pommard in style, everything is in balance here and there is superb potential for cellaring - this will be better opened in a few years, and should age well over the medium- to long-term.

- #93 Top 100 Wines of The World -
James Suckling, July 2024
The enormously deep and dark nose of wet earth and spicy complexity barely prepares you for the combination of gigantic concentration, precision and originality on the stunningly graceful palate, which is only medium-bodied. The finish just keeps echoing down the valleys of your mind thanks to the extraordinarily fine tannins. From three plots in this legendary site totaling 1.4 hectares. From organically grown grapes. Matured in 50% new oak and 50% once-used oak
