This world-renowned family-owned winery produces exciting, refined world class wines from the Adelaide Hills. Consistently scoring 93-97 points across the range, the team at Shaw + Smith continues to show that cool climate wines from the Adelaide Hills are amongst the best in the world. Today's offer features three single vineyard wines that are not regularly available in Western Canada from their two vineyards, Balhannah and Lenswood (totaling 136 acres or 55 hectares).
Balhannah vineyard surrounds the Shaw + Smith winery and sits at an average of 420 metres (1,375 feet) above sea level. Planted in 2000, the soil is comprised of free-draining sandy loam over red clay, with underlying quartzite and shale.
We’re excited to introduce to Western Canada two wines from Lenswood vineyard. Planted in 1999, the steep undulating topography offers both east and west aspects with the highest point reaching 500 metres (1,640 feet). Here you’ll find brown loam over clay, and thinner topsoil areas on the ridges with broken shale and stone ridges.

Decanter, November 2023
Shaw & Smith was founded in 1989 by cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith MW (who also own Tolpuddle in Tasmania). Planted in 1999, and purchased in 2012, their Lenswood vineyard sits at 500m on loam soils over clay and shale. Whole bunches ferment in new and used puncheons then the wine matures for 10 months in barrel, 30% new.
Anne Krebiehl MW: Slightly oaky and smoky, but bright and crunchy, lightbodied, with pretty, almost confected red fruit at the core. Fine freshness.
Justin Knock MW: Open, creamy nose, a bit reduced. Caramel and violets, bacon, blue fruits, a little short and tight. Warm finish.
Dirceu Vianna Junior MW: Pure and precise aromas, exciting. Forest fruits and roses with sweet spices. Excellent concentration, sophisticated structure. Smooth, delicious finish.
