Celebrating Trialto's 25th Anniversary - Sokol Blosser Library Offer

We continue to celebrate our 25th Anniversary with a collection of wines from Sokol Blosser. Founded by Bill Blosser and Susan Sokol Blosser in 1971, today the estate has passed to a 2nd generation of winegrower’s led by Alex Sokol Blosser. Sokol Blosser is a true pioneer of the Oregon wine industry and a remarkable representation of the wines of People, Place and Time.

We are proud to share four world-class, single vineyard Pinot Noirs from the 2017 vintage. This vintage is noted as a classic in the Willamette Valley and for Sokol Blosser in the Dundee Hills, it produced wines with beautiful structure, balance, and aging potential.

We encourage you to take advantage of this impeccable parcel of wines and to celebrate our 25th year with us.

Peach Tree Block

Named after what used to be planted here: peach trees. In its place today are more than 2 acres of Pommard and 777 pinot noir clones that produce what Alex says is “a wild, almost unfocused pinot noir, with its power of fruit and flavour going in multiple directions.”

Brilliant garnet. Sexy, high-pitched red fruit and floral scents are complemented by building allspice and mineral flourishes. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, showing excellent clarity to the appealingly sweet raspberry, cherry and rose pastille flavors. A bracing suggestion of blood orange adds cut to a very long, penetrating finish framed by silky, even tannins.

Old Vineyard Block

In the early 1970s, Bill and Susan planted their first vines (Pommard, Wädenswil 1A, and a Gamay like-clone identified as Pinot Droit) on this site now called Old Vineyard Block. The site was replanted in 2007 and 2009 with grafting off the original vines then placed onto American rootstocks.

James Suckling, September 2020

Very floral with blueberries and violets on the nose. Some lemon, too. Full-bodied with layers of fruit, creamy tannins and a fruity finish. Yet, it remains balanced and refined with lovely, fine tannins.

Twelve Row Block

One of the original sites Bill and Susan planted in the 1970s. Originally they thought the grapes here were classic Pommard clone, but later discovered them to be an atypical clone called Martini.

Vivid scarlet. Aromas of musky red berries and cherry pit, along with turned earth, licorice and cola nuances. Weighty, palate-coating bitter cherry, black raspberry, floral pastille and mocha flavors turn sweeter on the back half. In a powerful, serious style for the vintage, showing solid grip on the clinging finish, which is shaped by dusty, slowly building tannins. 25% new oak.

Goosepen Block

If there’s ever a grand cru site in the Sokol Blosser estate, this is it. Every year, this 4-acre block produces some of the most compelling Pinot Noir – amazing fruit, firm grippy tannins and plenty of acidity.

It’s called Goosepen after a failed experiment that Susan and Bill tried in the mid-1980s. Rather than spend their time mowing, they decided to fence the vineyard and invest in geese to eat the grass. The geese never dispersed to eat the grass, however. Although the Goosepen Block is named after a failed experiment, the wine from this site always delivers.

Vinous, August 2020

Deep, shimmering red. Spice-accented raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by hints of cola and musky flowers. Silky and focused on the palate, offering gently sweet red fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that flesh out as the wine opens up. Fine-grained tannins lend shape to a very long, spice-accented finish that shows sharp clarity and building florality.
