About L'ECOLE NO. 41

A family-owned business, L'Ecole Nº 41 was founded by Jean and Baker Ferguson. Today, the winery is owned and operated by their daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Martin Clubb. Built in 1915, the schoolhouse is located in historic Frenchtown, a small community just west of Walla Walla, Washington. L'Ecole Nº 41 has been honoured as Wine & Spirits Magazine Winery of the Year for 14 consecutive years (2002-2015).

This young, brilliant, age-worthy wine is wound rather tightly with fine-grained tannins, but a profusion of fresh, vivid red and black fruit is waiting to open up. Red cherries, dried cranberries, blackcurrants and subtle oak spices are beautifully layered. 56% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot, 14% cabernet franc, 7% malbec and 5% petit verdot

The peppery, spicy ad elegant 2019 Appellation San Carlos Cabernet Franc is fresh, varietal, nuanced and complex while keeping the alcohol to a moderate 13.6%, which makes it attractive and easy to drink, with nice balance and very fine tannins. I usually like the precision and symmetry in this lively wine that has a velvety mouthfeel.
