About this winery

At heart, Catena is a story about family. Family who poured their lives, passion and spirit into transforming scrub-laden desert into some of the most beautiful and unique vineyards in the world. Family that passed their knowledge from generation to generation, blending collective memory with state-of-the-art science from the new world of viticulture. Family who, through risk-taking, faith and a little luck, transformed their treasured Mendoza terroir into the fountainhead of the award-winning...

Notes about product

Through decades of study and exploration within Mendoza's high altitude mountain terroirs, the Catena family has identified special locations for its Estate vineyards. The grapes for this wine are sourced from four separate vineyards and harvested at different times.

Winemaking notes

Whole cluster pressed; fermented sur lies in barrels and stainless steel. Wild yeasts were used and 60% of the juice underwent malolactic fermentation. Aged 10 months in French oak with second- and third- fill barrels used.

Tasting notes

Aromas of ripe pear and apple with soft tropical fruit and baking spices on the palate. A creamy, lengthy finish.

May 2019

Catena makes some of the best Chardonnays in the southern hemisphere, excelling even at this comparatively modest price level. Combining fruit from the Uco Valley with 10% from Agrelo, it’s a modern, yeasty, citrus-tinged style with very subtle wood and pithy acidity.

March 2019

This is really bright and vivid with blazing acidity, combined with ripe and rich fruit. Cooked apples and pie crust. Very flavorful finish. Almost sweet and sour character.

From renown producer, Catena, a dry, full-bodied and well-priced Argentinean Chardonnay with ripe pear, apple, soft tropical fruit, butter crust and apple pie spice flavours on the palate. Finishes creamy, long and vibrant. Pair with roast chicken.

October 2019

The balsamic, smoky and spicy white 2018 Catena Chardonnay is a blend of different vineyards matured in oak barrels for ten months. 2018 was a very good harvest in Mendoza...This Chardonnay is a fresh and varietal bottling with good balance; they used some destemmed grapes for the first time, trying to obtain less oxidative musts, and the wine comes through as a balanced combination of fruit and oak with a pleasant mouthfeel. It's really excellent for the price asked.
