About this winery

The KRIS winery is located in the beautiful hillside town of Montagna, located in the Northern Italian region of Alto Adige. Here you will find a unique combination of German history and Italian nationality working in unison to produce wines that are artistic, but are born out of modern winemaking practices. KRIS’ beautifully designed labels are the work of Riccardo Schweizer, a good friend of the winery owner and also a native of Northern Italy. Schweizer, who spent many years studying...

Production notes

The KRIS winemakers take full advantage of the “delle Venezie” designation by marrying the best fruit from the appellation’s three permitted regions to yield a Pinot Grigio with an unusually expressive flavor profile. Veneto fruit provides the delicate floral notes and the classic almond finish so typical of this region. Grapes sourced from the southwest-facing slopes of the village of Montagna in Alto Adige receive ample sun and contribute ripe yet fresh citrus and pear fruit. The Mulinat estate in Friuli, where the soils are gravelly and well drained produce low-yielding fruit that helps to intensify flavor. The final blend shows depth of flavor in a bold, Northern Italian style.

Tasting notes

Pale yellow in color with brilliant greenish reflections, enticing aromas of acacia flowers, citrus, tangerine, and hints of apricots and almonds. Lean and refreshing on the palate with hints of blossom and honey.

Daenna Van Mulligen, November 2016 (Vintage 2015)

Piquant, on-point, guava.
The Kris' recognizable green hand label was designed by Italian artist Riccardo Schweizer (1925-2004). Consistently on-point it offers guava, lemondrops, honey, white peach and acacia on the nose. It is tangy and lengthy, with lovely viscosity and piquant citrus flavours, which are rounded out with distinct mineral notes.

Pair: A rustic antipasti platter, a simple Aglio e Olio (pasta with garlic, olive oil and chili flakes) or white meats.

The Kris' recognizable green hand label was designed by Italian artist Riccardo Schweizer (1925-2004).

Consistently on-point, this vintage doles out stewed yellow apples, ripe pear and marzipan with honey, white raisins, lemon meringue and acacia blossoms. It is weighty in the mouth; bitter almond and lemon zest flavours prevail. Lengthy and complex overall, with good balance and pithy, mouthwatering finish.

Pair: A rustic antipasti platter, a simple Aglio e Olio (pasta with garlic, olive oil and chili flakes) or white meats.

new 2013.
Gorgeous ripe golden apples, guava and pears alongside aromas of honey, acacia and almond oil. The palate continues in the same vein with floral talk, golden fruits, marzipan and honey. Weighty, concentrated and pristine with a phenolic character on the finish.
Lovely complexity and length."

B+

August 2017

Year in-and-out, Kris Pinot Grigio marries crispness and intensity with layers of flavour and texture. It’s refreshing, sure, but also balanced and elegant — making it quite the versatile white wine that is ready to pair up with a bounty of diverse meals, from grilled seafood to chicken alfredo. Bottom line: B+ “Impressive all-round PG”

September 2018

White spring flower, stone fruit and a whiff of honey lead the nose. On the straightforward palate, a touch of bitter almond adds interest to yellow apple and a hint of citrus.
