Allen Meadows, April 2018 (Vintage 2016)

Deep ruby hue. Here too there is enough wood to mention framing the equally ripe if more elegant aromas of spice, cassis, black cherry and a touch of earth. The sleeker and slightly more precise medium-bodied flavors possess solid intensity and a bit more complexity on the balanced and lingering finish that is mildly firmer as well.

April 2016 (Vintage 2014)

There is just enough reduction present to push the underlying fruit to the background though it does seem ripe. Otherwise there is once again very good concentration to the attractively textured, firm and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that also possess a lush mouth feel, all wrapped in a palate coating finale where hints of bitter cherry, austerity and rusticity arise. This markedly powerful effort will need a few years of bottle age to better harmonize.

Relatively firm reduction presently renders the nose difficult to assess. On the plus side there is both good verve and detail to the refined medium-bodied flavors thanks to the fine grain of the supporting tannins on the ever-so-mildly warm finish. This isn’t particularly dense but it is certainly very pretty.
