About this winery

Dr. Antonio Moretti has made a major impact on the Italian wine scene with his projects Tenuta Sette Ponti near Arezzo, Poderi Orma in Bolgheri, and Feudo Maccari in Sicily. All the estates have received repeated recognition from the International Wine Press for producing outstanding terrior driven wines. Notes about product

Orma is the acclaimed wine made at a single estate of the same name in Bolgheri, coastal Tuscany’s premier wine village. Originally purchased in the mid-1990’s by Arezzo-born business mogul, Antonio Moretti, Orma is said to be ‘well-born’ due to the estate’s location next to Tenuta dell’Ornellaia and amid the towering cypress trees of the famed Via Bolgherese. With a profile that finds equilibrium between power and finesse, Orma reflects both the unique terroir and the ambitious spirit of its territory.

Tasting notes

Plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc are brought to full ripeness by the brilliant summer sunshine for which this part of Tuscany is renowned. Gentle and consistent sea breezes keep the vines ventilated and free of rot despite dense plantings of 2,960 vines/acre. More than any other characteristic, however, Orma's vineyards are defined by their soil. Here, the soil is composed of a high proportion of sand and pebbles with considerably less clay than other coastal areas in Tuscany. This yields a well-drained growing environment in which vines are required to dig deep for buried water reserves. The result is a richly defined wine of power, concentration, and character.

Subtle currant, light sandalwood and some cherry aromas. Full-bodied, yet fine-tuned and polished with tannins that melt beautifully into the wine. Long and focused. Beauty and balance to this.

Monica Larner, December 2020

The 2018 Orma is a generous and bold blend of Merlot (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). This wine is built on solid foundations and shows a rich vinous footprint. The fruit is black and concentrated, as is to be expected of a wine of this ambition, and it sits with a dark and almost impenetrable appearance in the glass. Orma shows a careful balance between fruit and oak spice, and both are calibrated to achieve high sensorial impact and intensity. If you're looking for the classic Tuscan blended red with sunshine and power, this release of 25,000 bottles is for you.
