About this winery

In the south of France sits the village of Rasteau, a small hilltop parish with a long history of winemaking. First established by the Romans in 30 BC, the hilly, south-facing slopes and smooth-pebbled soils of the region provide the ideal terroir for planting classic Rhone varietals like: Grenache, Mourvedre, and of course Syrah. Cave de Rasteau is one of Côtes du Rhône’s oldest co-operative wineries. Founded in 1925, it now consists of a union of eighty growers managing over 700 hectares....

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red color. Aromas of red fruits, spices and liquorice. The palate is a savoury, spicy garrigue affair with dark red, slightly jammy red fruit, flecked with licorice and pepper, we find similar flavors as on the nose. The mouth is structured with melted tannins, beautiful freshness that harmonizes everything. Drink or hold. Pair with pork, chicken or with fresh goat and cheeses.

SMART BUY

December 2016 (Vintage 2015)

Shows the purity and focus of the vintage, with a lovely core of fresh plum, raspberry and blackberry fruit melded together and backed by a light graphite spine on the violet-edged finish. A delight now, but has the balance to develop a bit more in the cellar.
