About this winery

The Gimonnet family has been growing vines in Champagne since 1750. In 1935 Pierre Gimonnet, grandfather of current owners Didier and Olivier, began producing champagne in the village of Cuis. Didier and Olivier own 30 hectares in total; 16 hectares are Premier Cru from the village of Cuis. A high percentage of their vineyards are Grand Cru - 12 hectares in total, spread across the villages of Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Aÿ. The Grand Cu vineyards have an average age of 40 years. August 2023 (Vintage 2016)

Ripe and concentrated, but youthful, bright and light-footed, this has stacks of candied orange peel character plus plenty of bread dough and a touch of celeriac. Not as dry as you might imagine for Extra Brut, but very chalky with vivid mousse at the finish. Another year or two of bottle age could bring more. From the Montaigu site, vines planted between 1951 - 1991. Bottled on the 27 April 2017 and disgorged April 2023

The 2015 Champagne Grand Cru Special Club Chouilly Brut is savory in its attack, with tarragon and fresh herbs, lime zest, and saline earth. With its ripeness and rounded feel, it is approachable now. Drink 2022-2034.

Seaweed and oyster shell with some stone and dried apple on the nose. Medium to full body with a creamy texture, showing apple skin and lemon rind to the cooked-apple and lemon undertones. Intense and slightly decadent. Dosage 4g/L. Disgorged in April 2021. Drink now.

November 2020

Ample, broad and dramatic in scale, the 2014 Brut Spécial Club Chouilly Grand Cru shows just how well many wines turned out in a vintage that was not highly regarded at the time. Lemon confit, marzipan, chamomile and light pastry open effortlessly in the glass. The Chouilly is a big wine, but it remains translucent in feel, with plenty of cut driving through to the finish. Didier Gimonnet makes the Chouilly from the Montaigu lieu-dit, which has vines that he planted as far back as 1951. Readers won't want to miss this super-distinctive, substantial Champagne. Dosage is 4 grams per liter.

December 2020

Apple blossom and honeysuckle notes waft from the glass of this satiny Champagne, and juicy acidity buoys flavors of ripe Anjou pear, chopped almond and preserved lemon. Hard to stop sipping, with a well-defined finish that sings with saline- and oyster shell-laced minerality...
