Production notes

The fruit was hand harvested from Kalita Vineyard from September 21st to the 24th, and brought back to the Dundee Hills Estate winery were 96% was destemmed and the rest left whole-cluster. The destemmed fruit went through an ambient fermentation while the whole cluster was fermented using the native house yeast. All of this took place in three ton stainless steel tanks with punch-downs for cap management. The wine was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels with 20% new oak.

Tasting notes

An abundance of black fruit with blackberry, black currants, and black cherry with fresh blossom. A big, rich Pinot Noir with a perfect balance between fruit and tannins.

Michael Alberty, September 2024 (Vintage 2022)

An aromatic set of rose petals, red cherries, strawberries and sweet, fresh-turned garden soil make for a nice introduction to the Kalita. Crisp acidity and fine-grained tannins provide the backdrop for dark plum, ginger and balsa flavors. Try this wine with grilled portobellos topped with marinara sauce.

Clive Pursehouse, March 2024 (Vintage 2022)

There is a pungent intensity to the 2022 Kalita Vineyard Pinot Noir that is evocative of umami richness and flinty gunpowder mineral depth. Scents of forest floor, turned earth and pine tar frame notes of ripe bramble fruit. The palate has ripeness and the classic structure one associates with the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Black cherries, red plum skin and a note of clove and smoke cross the palate, delivering a stony component to the finish.
