Thibault Liger-Belair comes from a great winemaking family that has deep roots in Burgundy: he is a direct descendant of the Napoleonic General Louis Liger-Belair, who acquired the Chateau de Vosne in 1815 when he married Ludovie Marey, whose family had been Burgundy negociants since 1720. Youthful, passionate and always full of ideas, Thibault trained as an oenologist, but had his start in the wine industry as a wine buyer. The Hautes Côtes de Nuits Clos de Prieuré comes from limestone and white marl soils that tends to ripen earlier than the others according to Thibault Liger-Belair.
The nose is quite rich and fleshy. On the palate we find notes of ripe and rich stone fruits, notably cooked plum and cherry juice. The tannins are intense but at the same time soft and fine.
The 2021 Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Clos du Prieuré comes from vines on white marn soils and is now picked in the middle of harvest. This is quite powerful on the nose with ebullient red cherry, kirsch and rose petal scents. Incense emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This has a bit more nervosité than the Corvées de Villy with commendable persistence.
