About this winery

The Trimbach family has a long and storied history in Alsace. Growers since the 17th century the estate is now in the hands of its 12th generation, where brothers Pierre and Jean Trimbach run the day to day operations. Pierre has been responsible for the vineyards and winemaking since 1985 and Jean has served as Trimbach’s global Ambassador responsible for sales from that same year; tirelessly travelling the globe to promote both Trimbach and Alsatian wine as a whole. Tasting notes

One of the noblest of Alsace grapes, it produces a full, heady, rich fruity style, often with a lushness of aftertaste. Its great depth is balanced by the crisp acidity that gives structure and longevity. A slight smokiness, combined with underlying delicacy, is a typical feature.

The selection of very ripe grapes allows this Pinot Gris « Réserve » to match wonderfully with exotic, asiatic and japanese food.
Superb with food, the Pinot Gris comes into its own with terrines, foie gras, smoked fish, fish in sauce (notably salmon) and white meats.

The nose is fresh but shows complete restraint. The palate gently draws pure Comice pear fruit, its ripeness tempered with ample clean freshness. A streamlined precise slenderness characterizes this bone-dry, restrained and therefore utterly elegant Pinot Gris. It's a class act to drink...

A touch of ripe Mirabelle plum joins the pear fruits on the nose. The resolutely dry palate holds them tight on a very concentrated, fresh but also earthy body...The finish is whistle-clean.

A lifted, ethereal note of bitter almond suggests the beginnings of evolution. The palate, on the other hand, still seems closed but displays a streamlined concentrated core of flawless dryness and precise bundled freshness. This is taut, precise and sure to develop. The finish is lasting, refreshing and clean.

John Szabo, MS, February 2016 (Vintage 2012)

This is firm, tight and upright in the Trimbach house style, subtle and precise, though the 2012 has some extra flesh and weight, and a lightly tannic texture that will require a few more years in bottle to fully resolve. This should be a beauty in 2-3 years, or hold another decade or more. It would be hard to imagine a more consistent producer from anywhere in the world. Tasted February 2016. Value Rating: ***

Michael Godel, February 2016 (Vintage 2012)

Immediately reminds of 2008 and will go down a similar, slowly turning and evolving path. So purposed and direct though there is a slight elevation in residual sugar as compared to the four four beat four years ago. Pinot Gris of pears and operas, with some spice on the finish. This will aria into something lovely at the age of seven and beyond. Drink 2018-2022. Tasted February 2016.

2016 (Vintage 2013)

Finely knit and creamy, this medium-bodied Pinot Gris is dry and focused, with a subtle mesh of green plum, dried apricot, star anise and clover honey notes. An elegant version that should open up nicely. Lasting, minerally finish.

This is tight and firm with dried fruits, spices and almond paste. Some smoke too. Full-bodied, round and delicious. Savory, umami finish.

Alison Napjus, December 2014 (Vintage 2012)

An elegant white, with a frame of firm acidity that is well-meshed with a layer of smoky minerality and flavors of dried apricot, toasted almond, lemon curd and herb. Drink now through 2020. 4,000 cases imported.

September 2015 (Vintage 2012)

Aromas of aniseed and yellow peach follow through to a full body, round texture and a fruity finish. Lightly sweet. Pretty balance. Delicious finish. Crowd pleaser. Drink or hold.
