Fragrant, supple, persistent.
This Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre blend comes from the newish AOC, Rasteau, which is found just above Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the Southern Rhone Valley.
It is a wonderfully succulent wine, offering roasted cherries, blueberries, sarsaparilla, mocha and toffee with a bouquet of lilacs and freesia blossoms. Supple and substantive on the palate; plump purple fruits, mocha, spice, wild botanicals and bacon fat flavours lead to a lengthy espresso finish.
Pair: Roasted red meats, game birds, aged goat cheese and hearty pastas.

Mars 2019

In this wine, juicy blackberry and black-cherry notes are delicately muted by hints of forest floor and earth. It's full bodied and concentrated yet maintains a briskness on the palate. It's fresh and fruity yet earthy, complex and elegant too.

Novembre 2014

"Concentrated, supple, generous. From France's new AOC, Rasteau, found just above Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the Southern Rhone Valley, this rich red blend is made from old vine Grenache (the queen of the Southern Rhone), Syrah (the king of the Northern Rhone) and Mourvedre. Cave de Rasteau
Expect spicy blackberry, sweet black cherry, vanilla, thyme, crushed wild flowers, carob and sarsaparilla. The palate is supple with equally generous fruit alongside mocha, baking spices. Potent in character with sweet, polished tannins across the finish."

Josh Raynolds, Juin 2016 (Millésime 2014)

Ruby-red. Spice-tinged aromas of red and blue fruit preserves and potpourri take on subtle incense and white pepper nuances with air. Juicy raspberry and boysenberry flavors open slowly, picking up a mineral quality that adds back-end lift and cut. Sweeter and fleshy on the finish, where the supple tannins fold smoothly into the juicy fruit. This is a pretty delicious and highly drinkable bottle of wine.

This bottling is more refined than the Dame Victoria, offering hints of leather, black cherries and licorice on the nose and palate. The tannins are silky, leading to immediate approachability and an elegant finish.

Top Ten: Red Wine Values

Février 2022 (Millésime 2019)

Featured as a Top Ten: Red Wine Values from Anthony Gismondi on Wine.

"Some wines just deliver year in and year out and this Rasteau is one of them. La Domelière is planted to a commune hillside over chalky-limestone terraces covered with pebbles. The mix on average is 40 years age for the grenache (70%), syrah (20%) and mourvèdre (10%). The palate is a savoury, spicy garrigue affair with dark red, slightly jammy red fruit, flecked with licorice and pepper. It’s the value and the honesty here that makes this wine so attractive."
