Antonio Galloni, Août 2023 (Millésime 2021)

The 2021 Chianti Classico is exceptional. A burst of ripe red/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and tobacco are all dialed up in this racy, layered Chianti Classico. The 2021 was aged in 20% in cement and 80% in 20-25hL casks. It’s a serious wine that will benefit from cellaring. The Chianti Classico points to a potentially superb vintage here for the top bottlings.

Michaela Morris , Février 2023 (Millésime 2021)

Abutting the Albola estate, which it was once part of, Poggerino counts 12.5 hectares within the UGA of Radda. While the wines exhibit the elegance and succulence of the zone, they have a denser, darker expression than some of their peers. The 2021 clearly demonstrates this concentration while remaining pure and fresh. It is replete with spicy wild woodland berries hemmed in by terracotta-like tannins. Textured and layered with substance and structure, it merits a few years in the cellar.

Mars 2022 (Millésime 2020)

Piero Lanza’s holdings sit on clay and Galestro as opposed to sandy soil as seen in other parts of Radda. His is a denser, darker expression of the commune. He crafts his annata from a mix of early picked fruit and a later harvest of riper grapes, which gives an intriguing combination of concentrated cherry with pink grapefruit. Violet and tobacco leaf flicker throughout, and clay-textured tannins coat the palate without weighing it down. A tactile pleasure.

Antonio Galloni, Juin 2022 (Millésime 2020)

The 2020 Chianti Classico is soft, fruity and open-knit, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Bright red-fleshed fruit, leather, pipe tobacco and cedar all take shape in this supple, engaging Chianti Classico from Poggerino. The precision and pedigree here are just unreal.
