About this winery

At heart, Catena is a story about family. Family who poured their lives, passion and spirit into transforming scrub-laden desert into some of the most beautiful and unique vineyards in the world. Family that passed their knowledge from generation to generation, blending collective memory with state-of-the-art science from the new world of viticulture. Family who, through risk-taking, faith and a little luck, transformed their treasured Mendoza terroir into the fountainhead of the award-winning...

Product notes

The Catena wines are a special assemblage of High Mountain Estate Vineyards made by fourth generation vintner, Laura Catena and chief winemaker, Alejandro Vigil. From the marriage of these historic vineyards emerges a wine of unique character that has natural balance, concentration and a distinct varietal identity.

Lots of spice and hints of dried herbs to the currant and berry aromas. Medium to full body. Firm, lightly chewy tannins and a balanced finish.

October 2020

A majority Cabernet Sauvignon with 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot from Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley that spent 12 months in French barrels, resulting in a degree of complexity. The nose offers black currant, blueberry and pepper and a hint of pyrazine, along with sandalwood and incense notes. Juicy with fine, firm tannins that fill up the mouth before the flavoursome finish.

November 2022 (Vintage 2021)

Similar to the Malbec, the 2021 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon was also produced in an approachable and commercial style, with good ripeness, some varietal character and a combination of berries, herbs and spicy oak that makes it attractive and easy to understand by most people. It's medium-bodied with clarity of flavors and aromas and fine tannins. It finishes with an herbal and spicy Cabernet note.

May 2020

Less sweet than the straight Catena Malbec, and a better balanced wine in my view, this is an assemblage of Cabernet Sauvignon with 9% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Textured, smooth and nicely focused, it has cassis and blackberry fruit, subtle cinnamon oak spice and a fresh, balancing finish.

September 2022 (Vintage 2021)

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Catena contains 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot from the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo. Garnet red in hue. The nose presents bold notes of redcurrant, hints of roasted red pepper and gentle aromas of fresh bell pepper within an oaky frame. Voluminous and grippy, the acidity is juicy, vibrant and just a bit tart.
