About this winery

In 1987, Gonzalo Antón, together with a group of friends and business people from nearby Vitoria, began a ground-breaking project in deepest Rioja Alavesa. The village of Villabuena de Alava, where his family already grew grapes, was chosen as the location for the innovative bodega which would focus on making fine wine. Gonzalo’s knowledge of hotels and restaurants soon made Izadi one of the most highly-regarded wines in gastronomic circles. At the same time, the introduction of new...

Very attractive dried-apple and lemon aromas with some stone and honeysuckle character. It’s medium-bodied with firmness and freshness. Stone and chalk undertones. Flavorful finish. Viura, tempranillo blanco, maturana blanca, garnacha blanca and turrntés.

Antonio Galloni, February 2020 (Vintage 2016)

Azelia's 2016 Barolo is a blend of fruit from two parcels in Castiglione Falletto and five in Serralunga, with the character of Serralunga especially felt in the wine's tannic grip and persistence. Iron, sage, mint, smoke and wild cherry give the Barolo striking aromatic nuance and complexity, all in the mid-weight style that is such a signature at this address. The purity of the fruit is just striking. Stated simply, this is a tremendous wine in its peer group.

July 2022 (Vintage 2021)

The white 2021 Selección Blanco was first produced in 1991, and since then, they have used the Viura and Malvasía grapes planted at the beginning of the rows, fermenting them in barrel and have added other varieties since 2016 they. This 2021 is a complex blend of mostly Viura, 11% Garnacha Blanca, 10% Maturana Blanca, 7% Tempranillo Blanco, 3% Torrontés and 3% Malvasía with 13.4% alcohol. It's from a cool vintage that delivered a vibrant wine with great acidity and freshness, serious, clean, with integrated oak and great aging potential. It finishes dry, with a chalky feeling. 48,000 bottles and 100 magnums produced. It was bottled in March 2022.

April 2020

Izadi Blanco is a 65/10/10/5/5/ mix of viura, malvasía, garnacha blanca, tempranillo blanco, maturana blanca, and turruntés, grown in some of the oldest vineyards in Rioja. The brand Izadi is young by Rioja standards, with just over three decades of production, but there is a feeling, a soul, for wine that belies that youth. A small percentage is barrel-fermented, and the result is a creamy, round palate. Expect an exuberant, juicy white with notes of quince, ripe apple, nectarines, and citrus. It begs you to serve it with food, from chicken to sushi to west coast seafood.

August 2019

Izadi Blanco is an intriguing mix of 70 percent viura blended with 10/10/10 malvasía, garnacha blanca, and tempranillo blanco. Izadi is young by Rioja standards, with just over three decades of production, but it has a soul for wine, and this white is an excellent example of their commitment. Like very few whites you would taste in a year, this juicy mix of grapes yields a fresh, core of ripe quince flecked with nectarines and excellent acidity. Understated, and versatile with food, I enjoyed it with homemade pesto and pasta. A small percentage is barrel-fermented to round out the palate and lengthen the finish to excellent effect...

February 2019

Formerly known as Fermentado en Barrica, this now combines oaked Viura with unoaked Garnacha Blanca, Malvasía and Tempranillo Blanco. Focused, pithy and subtly wooded, it has grapefruit, quince, lemon peel and beeswax notes.

August 2018

Aromas of ripe apples and nectarines here. The palate has tart and tangy, juicy fruit with punchy acidity. Really delivers in a refreshing, drink-now style.
